robin says he doesn't want to put a comment. he thinks they're 'mad americans who want to wash cats. in england we like our cats dirty, as nature intended.'
sometimes you have to wash them if they got into the trash and are covered in smelliness. it can be bad sometimes. usually though, its fine. you should only wash them on rare ocassionss, and never put them in a tub! thats cruel.
It's precisely because they clean themselves that you sometimes have to wash them--if they get something on their fur that isn't safe or healthy for them to ingest, for example. More of a problem for cats that go outdoors, but occasionally can happen in the best of circumstances... Also flea dips, etc, or if a cat gets sick and can't/won't clean itself properly.
Are you serious? cats are not that clean just because they lick themselves. Ok yes they are cleaner than dogs, and yes they look clean but there is all sorts of dirt that licking does not get out. as for bathing cats being cruel... it isnt! thats like saying bathing a child who doesn't want to take a bath is cruel just because they don't like it. it's an issue that they should get over, bathe your cats often people. I know I do! o hilarious pictures btw
You shouldn't really bath cats unless they have something wrong with them like major fleas or something. It's kind of traumatic for the poor dears. The evidence speaks for itself. :)
not to mention that cats ears are prone to ear infections if the ears are not dried properly. I bet no one has tried dealing with a cat's ear infection - well it SUX.
I've been washing my kitty, Franc, since she was teeny. She doesn't really mind it, she just mills around the tub and whines a little, but she puts up with it. Especially in the summer, she would rather be wet than hot. And just for all you crazy animal fanatics, I shave her in the summer too, and she loves it!
I have thought of bathing my Maine Coon. He has particularly oily fur and dandruff, which is common for his breed. I know people who go to cat shows with Maine Coons often wash them just before shows for this very reason. Still, he has an affection for water which I don't want to risk taking away by a bath so I just put up with the oiliness. If it gets worse, I may try the bath someday. Not out of meanness, though.
